The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) and Education Above All Foundation (EAA) invite qualified candidates to apply for a full-time sponsored position of Vocational Trainer in a new secondary school in Doha, Qatar. The School will launch in the 2021-2022 Academic Year and follow Years 7-13 of the International Cambridge Curriculum, in addition to vocational tracks according to the Pearson BTEC qualifications. The School provides access to high school completion for children who are not currently enrolled at schools in Qatar or are behind their grade level due to significant financial barriers. The School also provides academic continuity for students transferring from other MOEHE-EAA schools for out-of-school children. The School is designed to adopt a dual approach, offering an academic track with an added applied skills component to facilitate access to high school completion and the acquisition of hands-on, occupationally-aligned skills. 

 

The School operates under the governance of a School Board of Trustees, comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Education Above All Foundation, College of the North Atlantic-Qatar, First Assalam School, as well as donor bodies. Under the supervision of the School Board, the new school has been established to provide an inclusive, transformative educational environment that acknowledges and respects children from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds and facilitates their development of academic and applied, hands-on skills. The school aspires to nurture students’ resilience and independence such that they become active, contributing members of society.

 

 

  1. Position Description

The Vocational Trainer is a highly skilled practitioner who provides hands-on instruction to students within a specific vocational field, up to recognized occupational standards and skill levels. He/she brings real work experience into the classroom, laboratory or workshop to supplement student academic skills with practical competencies. The Vocational Trainer develops carefully structured lesson plans that support learner acquisition of practical, occupationally-aligned skills. He/she supports students in the use of tools, equipment, technologies and techniques necessary to perform the tasks within a specific scope of practice. The role requires expert demonstrations and skills training, as well as the creation and administration of competency-based assessments using appropriate methods. The Vocational Trainer leverages methods that are well developed and employs a range of strategies for motivating students and engaging them in applied learning. He/she is dedicated to gradually increasing the competency of trainees in the safest possible manner. 

 

  1. Qualifications 

 

  • Minimum of a Diploma in the area of the vocational qualification from a recognized technical or vocational institution
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial/vocational/professional experience in a relevant occupational practice 
  • Minimum of 2 years of vocational training experience
  • Fluency equivalent to a Native English language level is required

  

  1. Desired Qualities 

 

  • Licensure or certification in health and safety such as NEBOSH or CSP
  • Licensure or certification in First Aid or emergency response
  • Working experience in Qatar in a relevant occupational area 
  • Excellent communications skills, specifically regarding instructions on operating machinery and tools
  • Fundamental understanding of safety procedures and proper device and tool handling techniques
  • Arabic and Urdu is considered an asset 

 

  1. Technical and Vocational Curriculum Knowledge

 

  • Fully prescribes to and applies the school’s hybrid academic-vocational model and delivers training in the relevant skills areas using competency-based and experiential learning approaches 

 

  • Creates well-structured and appropriately scaffolded lesson plans, assignments, and assessments in alignment with the approved curriculum

 

  • Delivers the relevant vocational curriculum according to the required skill level and standards and module Guided Learning Hours (GLH) 

 

  • Provides conceptual and competency-based instruction within laboratory, workshop, and practical, real-world settings using a variety of pedagogically sound methods 

 

  • Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and assessment that provides students with opportunities to observe, investigate, practice, and master occupational skills 

 

  • Models, mentors, and monitors students’ safe use of specialized tools and equipment, ensuring prevention of injury and/or damage 

 

  • Conducts written, oral and performance tests to evaluate students’ understanding of relevant occupational procedures and concepts

 

  • Provides individualized or remedial instruction as necessary to support student progression 

 

  • Establishes and enforces rules for respectful, orderly, and safe behavior inside the learning environment and outside 

 

  • Maintains and organizes student records, such as grades, assignments and performance evaluations 

 

  • Provides suggestions to improve, modify or adapt the required curriculum according to learner needs and target skills outcomes 

 

  • Maintains currency in the vocational field of practice by undertaking professional reading and subscribing to other professional development programs and initiatives 

 

  • Attends regular conferences and seminars to keep informed of developments and advancements in the occupational field

 

  • Enforces all school academic and administrative policies and procedures
